DBA Job Description: The Database Administrator will interface with multiple members of the development team on a technical and customer service level. The DBA should demonstrate an enterprise view and understanding of systems and technologies. The DBA is responsible for database design, installation, maintenance, monitoring, and upgrades of database systems. This includes documenting systems in accordance with company standards. The DBA serves as a point of escalation and review for issues or concerns identified by the customer or the monitoring system on a 24x7 basis. The DBA will help develop solutions to improve database environments and enhance server reliability and performance. The DBA provides sales support to assist in determining customer needs and projecting requirements based on customer input. The DBA is responsible for designing database solutions to best meet customer needs, as well as making and presenting recommendations to improve existing infrastructures.
Responsibilities:
Qualifications: • Min. BS Computer Science or equivalent • Min. 2 years experience as a DBA or equivalent. Must have experience in MySQL, performance tuning in a customer facing production environment (24x7x365) with increasingly complex DBA assignments meeting the 24x7 operational requirements • Experience designing, developing, tuning, optimizing, deploying and updating multiple MySQL instances with critical 100% uptime requirements • Experience with database administration, storage management, database disaster recovery solutions, performance monitoring, tuning, database integrity & security • Experience with and knowledge of database programming concepts including SQL, stored procedures, and triggers •Experience with analyzing and troubleshooting the interaction between databases, operating systems, and applications particularly in the areas of performance and resource usage • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of DB scoping, profiling, scaling and fault tolerant operation • Experience with open source/Linux development and production environment is CRITICAL, including knowledge of storage technologies with Linux: RAID, NFS, SAN, etc.
• Ability to provide support for development, test, and production environments, including setup of new servers, databases, and objects within the database • Strong understanding of performance optimization at query, schema, service, OS, and hardware level. Knowledge of system H/W trade-offs including CPUs, RAM, RAID and fault tolerant architectures • Ability to work independently; prioritizing and managing workload autonomously in a rapid-paced distributed environment • Excellent written and verbal English language skills
